Need a Vacation from my Vacations

September 12, 20252 min read

“Do you have any fun vacations coming up?” the bank teller was making small talk.

“No! Thank God!” I said, exasperated. “I couldn’t handle another vacation right now.”

“Why is that?”

“I play hard!”

➡️ I’ve been scarce from social media for a few weeks because I’m still recovering from one of those vacations… while also still recovering from my MCL injury.

🧠 ADHD Vacation Crash
Dopamine Overdrive: Novelty, excitement, challenge, FOMO.
Hyperfocus Trap: Tuning out fatigue and soreness—“just one more adventure,” “I’ll rest when I’m dead.”
Recovery Lag: Too much fun + ADHD brains can take longer to re-regulate.

🩼 Ligament Repair
Slow Healers: Ligaments don’t heal as quickly as muscles, so recovery drags on.
Energy Hog: Protein, glucose, and collagen get rerouted to healing instead of fueling focus or energy.
Inflammation Fallout: Repair chemicals do their job, but they leave you foggy and fatigued.

😮‍💨 Combined
• Despite my best efforts to pace myself, I had too much fun.
• My body is doing double duty—recovering from vacation and from the injury.

😮 Jeez! No wonder I’m wiped out.

📃 Things I’m Doing
Healthy Diet: (Keto) anti-inflammatory foods + protein and collagen.
Exercise: Physical therapy, deep stretching, martial arts training at “slow Tai Chi speed.”
Rest: Reading, watching action comedies and MMA for vicarious dopamine hits.

✍️ Soon I’ll write more about ADHD Vacation Overdrive—why we crash so hard after the fun, and what can actually help you bounce back.

😌 For now, I’m still in recovery mode…
