Here I am hitting my heavy-bag while sitting in a chair.
How did I get here? ⁉️
While caring for my sick cat (see yesterday's post), I took a hard fall and injured my knee. My MCL is damaged—but thankfully, not torn. The injury is well within the range of being rehabilitated, but it still can’t bear weight yet.
🥋When I first started training with my Sensei, he assured me there was no injury I could suffer that he couldn’t work around.
“If you ever become wheelchair-bound, I’ll teach you how to fight in the chair,” he promised.
“If you become a high-level quadriplegic, I’ll teach you kata you can do in your head.”
“If you end up in a coma… OK, maybe that’s my limit. You need to be conscious for me to train you.”
“But short of that, I can work with anything.”
I hope we’ll never find out.
For now, I’m training while seated. 🪑
A few days ago, we had a mini-class where he showed me how to use my Kobudo weapons from a chair, and gave me some direction on what to focus on during this time—things like precision and timing. ⏱️🎯
Afterward, I looked over at my heavy-bag and realized:
I can hit that while seated, too.
So here I am, hitting my heavy-bag while sitting in a chair.
Am I resilient?
Channeling my tactical spite?
Too stubborn to know when to quit?
Yes. 🔥
My physical therapist assured me that my MCL will eventually reach the point where stressing it will stimulate healing.
I’m just not there yet.
He said I need to be patient.
Patience is not exactly one of my virtues.
This isn’t how I planned to spend my summer. But here I am.
Not patient, but stubborn. 🐉
Soon, I’ll have room for two new clients. Watch this space!
If this post landed for you, I’d be honored by your support.
