Warm textured parchment background with a framed portrait photo in the upper left of a smiling woman with long brown hair with gray highlights, seated in front of a black Butsudan cabinet with a gold lotus ornament and two singing bowls on a shelf below it. Bold dark text to the right reads "Joy, in times like these, is especially important." Below, four blue diamond bullet points read: "It's the old 'Put on your own oxygen mask first.'" "Or 'You can't pour from an empty cup.'" "Or one that I learned from my friends who are first responders, 'Don't make your buddies rescue you.'" "Or sometimes you just have to assert your own self-compassion, 'I deserve peace simply because I do.'" Joy in Times Like These

How are you all doing?

The world seems crazy right now.

If you’re ADHD, AudHD, or autistic you may feel it more deeply than other people.

If you’re a leader, then you have the added burden of needing to lead people through all of this.
But that can also be a blessing because the antidote to feeling helpless is doing something useful.

When I’m feeling the weight of the world and watching bad leadership, I write about ethical leadership such as a blog/social media post or one of the books or guides that I’m working on. It’s my way of countering bad leadership by spreading ethical leadership.

One of my clients has said that seeing all the bad leadership in high levels has helped his Imposter Syndrome, because he realizes that he could not possibly do a worse job than they are doing, and yet there they are. He has a way of “turning poop into fertilizer.”

Joy, in times like these, is especially important.

💠 It’s the old “Put on your own oxygen mask first.”

💠 Or “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

💠 Or one that I learned from my friends who are first responders, “Don’t make your buddies rescue you.”

💠 Or sometimes you just have to assert your own self-compassion, “I deserve peace simply because I do.”

I punctuate my workday with workout breaks between coaching sessions and writing drives. I have a garage dojo, and I keep workout equipment in my office. I also meditate.

Despite all that, recently my blood pressure spiked. Too much stress for too long, too many injuries and illnesses, my body now needed medical help. My doctor prescribed a beta blocker and my body is responding really well. He’s largely crediting my meditations, saying it’s helping the medicine work faster.

So that’s how I’m doing.

How are you?
