For ADHD leaders and aspiring leaders, plateaus can feel unbearable. Our brains are wired for the next dopamine hit of progress, the next win. This can make “flat” feel like failing even when it isn’t.
But geologically flat, exposed environments select for hardiness.
During plateaus we feel like we’re not growing by leaps and bounds, but in fact we are growing hardier.
Here’s the thing:
When you're frustrated that you’re plateauing, you're fighting yourself. But if you accept the plateau as necessary for growth, now you're aligned with yourself. And you’ll tend to move through the plateau faster, or at least you’ll move through it less painfully.
If you feel like you’ve plateaued, ask yourself what kind of hardy are you becoming?
