October is ADHD and Domestic Violence Awareness

October 14, 20252 min read

October is ADHD Awareness month. It’s also Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Did you know there’s a connection?

Shortly after I graduated from my coach training program, I realized my natural niche is ADHD Leadership. Although it felt right, a piece of my heart sank because I was leaving my self-defense/women’s self-defense background. But we coach the whole person, so I figured it was going to come up.

A few days later, I read the astonishing statistic that 37% of ADHD women experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime, and neurodivergent people of any gender are more likely to get targeted for crime.

Within weeks, TWO clients realized they were in psychologically abusive relationships. Neither abuser had become physical. Yet.

They both immediately made themselves safe.

With my self-defense/women’s self-defense background, I was able to help them both find further assistance.

Then one of them discovered that her now ex-boyfriend had been committing financial fraud against her.

She advocated for herself vigorously, and successfully recovered all of the money. In the process she realized she’s a natural born lawyer. She recently took the LSAT and will be applying to law school soon.

Really good self-defense soft-skills are deeply life coachy, and really good life coaching will make you stronger and therefore safer.

Not physical strength, but the kind that comes from recognizing your agency and managing your boundaries--
both of which become developed through self-defense soft-skills
and also through life coaching.

Now you can live more boldly and accomplish your dreams.

And when you’re a leader you can help others do the same.

This is what it means to live an Enhanced Life.

My client who went from victim of financial fraud to budding lawyer embodies this truth.

In what ways have you stepped into your agency and owned your power?
