Top right: a close-up of two cats curled together on a dark pant leg — a gray-and-white cat with a pink nose in front, and a long-haired orange tabby cat behind with a fluffy tail, both looking sleepy in warm sunlight. My Office Cats

Allow me to introduce you to my office kitties, Casey and Kaylee.

I do most of my reading and writing in my antique recliner, using my desk mostly for coaching appointments. This gives my cats plenty of opportunities for cuddles.

Even as I was writing this, my cats were taking turns sitting with me in the recliner.

Casey is 18 years old! He’s our Super Senior. We adopted him from The Humane Society when he was five months old. He was born stray and was captured with his brother who had just been adopted a few hours earlier. Casey was very demanding that we adopt him and make him part of our family.

Kaylee is six years old and is the loving but bratty little sister. We also adopted her from The Humane Society. In a room filled with adorable kittens, she was by far the most adorable. There was a fight to adopt her, which I won (by virtue of being first to claim her).

Casey is our Teddy Bear cat. He’s a big cat, just the right size for an adult to hug like a Teddy Bear and he melts in our arms. In his old age he has hypothyroidism, kidney failure, and a heart murmur. We’re managing his health with meds, prescription food, and I recently bought some pet-ramps to help him get up onto his favorite sofa and bed.

Kaylee is the light of our lives and my Shadow. Her superpower is predicting my movements and often leading me, for example, into the kitchen because she knows it’s time for my second cup of coffee. She has asthma and undiagnosed but suspected inflammatory bowel disease. We’re managing her health with medications, food that’s gentle, and air purifiers.

A benefit of working from home is kitty cuddles. And with a Super Senior cat, each moment is a special blessing.
