May the Fourth Be with You!
Here’s a longer list, though still incomplete, of those we celebrate on this day:
🌟 A farm boy who became a great hero.
🌟 A defiant princess in distress who took over her own rescue party and went on to become a great general.
🌟 A scoundrel who kept insisting he wasn’t a hero, until the moment he was.
🌟 Small beings with great power.
🌟 Clone Troopers who broke their programming.
🌟 A Stormtrooper who chose his conscience over conditioning.
🌟 An astromech droid who, in my head canon, broke his programming and acts from altruism to quietly become the most heroic being in the entire galaxy.
🌟 A bounty hunter who became the best adopted dad in the galaxy.
🌟 Politicians who refused to let democracy die and normalize tyranny.
🌟 A Marching band that fought the empire.
🌟 Planet-wide rebellions against injustice.
🌟 People destined for greatness fulfilling their hero’s journey.
🌟 People becoming heroes in spite of—or maybe because of—their circumstances.
We love Star Wars because of its classical archetypes and timeless stories, and also because it’s forward thinking.
When I was a little girl, I criticized fairy tales because at that time female characters were either good and weak or evil and strong. But I strived to be good and strong.
In 1977 Princess Leia was exactly the heroine role model I needed to see. And I’ve been in love with Star Wars ever since.
Which archetype is you? Which storyline is your favorite?
