My husband and I worked at his parents’ restaurant before we bought it. The change from “owners daughter-in-law" to “owner” wasn’t apparent to me at first because I was determined to remain the same kind person.
One day, as I was making fresh flower mini-bouquets for the table settings a little girl asked me for a flower. Since we usually had extras, I gave her one.
She ran off excitedly to tell her parents, “The owner gave me a flower! The owner gave me a flower!”
The weight of the moment fell upon me.
I was the same kind person doing the same kind gesture I would have done before we bought the restaurant.
I hadn’t changed, but people’s perception of me had.
Everything I did now carried more weight, both bad and good.
Not only did my admonitions carry more weight, but also my kindness.
I could become a force for good.
➡️ This is the Leadership Ripple:
🔹 Start with integrity.
Not for appearances, but because it’s who you are.
When your heart is aligned, your life becomes your message.
🔹Hold high standards.
Not for perfection, but for dependability.
You become someone others can count on—at home, at work, in crisis.
🔹 Lead with kindness.
Not softness, but strength in service.
Because care is what connects us, and connection is what changes the world.
Two of the most important leaders in my life have said to me, “I’m not a leader, I just try to help people.”
Leading from support totally counts.
When have you led without realizing it?
