Holding to your highest values will help get you through these difficult times.
And people will respond. You'll keep your best team members. Clients will find you.
A former employee from my husband's and my former restaurant came to talk with me after he quit his job.
He said he took the job because the company is locally owned, with good values. Like ours.
But once he started, he found it was just as bad as any major corporation he'd worked for.
So, they lost him. Now he's becoming a solopreneur.
It feels like the world is going crazy.
It feels like bad leadership is trickling down from the top.
It feels like there's no point in holding to your values.
But there is.
ADHD leaders are especially suited for this.
Here's why:
Empathy is a powerful leadership trait. It brings out people's best work, and it builds real connection.
This shows up in slogans like "We're family."
But that’s often an empty promise, a way to extract unpaid labor from employees.
ADHD leaders are genuine. Empathy runs deep in us. We see the person, not the position.
When we ask, "How are you doing today?" we want to know the answer so we can help meet their needs. That can't be faked.
Our former employees still tell us, "All companies say, 'We're family.' You actually achieved it."
The throughline of my coaching is, “You can change the world when you are more fully yourself.”
How do you embrace your empathy as a leadership superpower?
