Gift Article the Dark Side of Mindfulness

September 16, 2026•1 min read

I’m gifting this article from The Atlantic, “The Dark Side of Mindfulness” by Olga Khazan because mindfulness can be fraught for many ADHD people. If that’s you, this article will likely be validating and helpful.

Early on, I was cautioned to be careful with your state of mind when practicing mindfulness meditations because meditation will deepen/intensify what’s already there, so if you are anxious or depressed it could deepen those states. I’m not sure why it was that I received these warnings whereas others were not. Other than I learned meditation from martial artists and from a former coworker who was training to be a hypnotherapist, not the types of teachers discussed in this article.

Nowadays I prefer Moving Mindfulness such as my martial art forms/kata and Situational Awareness games which I share with my clients when they want them and also sometimes here on social media.

Please let me know what you think, and what your experiences have been.
